For those of you who are not in the know, National Novel Writing Month, also known as November, is when aspiring novelists from around the world take up the pen (or the keyboard) and whack out

50,000 words. NaNoWriMo's official motto is 'No Plot? No Problem!'; the aim of the game is to hit that coveted 50k and prove to yourself that yes, you can write, even if it's absolute crap, if you really,

really try. So I've sent my internal editor on holiday and I'm planning to show NaNo what's what my first year out of the gate. Let's write some crap!

Exhausted And Elated [Day 7]

Project Threesome: 9 298 words (me), 21 954 words (all)
Project Hero: 17 060 words

Can't believe I've almost been NaNo-ing for a week! It feels so strange. My exams start next Wednesday, two weeks from tomorrow I'll be driving home and just over three weeks from now I'll be submitting my winning novels for validation. (Just you wait.)

And I think I ended the week in a good way. I was feeling a little write-deprived, and I figured out my reward scheme yesterday, so I decided to pull an all-nighter and get some good writing done. I ended up with another 2 500 words for Hero and just over 3 400 for Threesome, both of which are awesome totals. I'm almost up to the point where another character is to be introduced in Hero, and for Threesome, we're getting ever closer to the fuzzies. Gotta get through the walking ghost stage first, though.

My rewards scheme, in case you were interested, is a mouthful of whipped cream every time I churn out another thousand words. I gave myself another one at the end even though I didn't hit seven thousand because I only yawned twice the entire night, and I've been discussing plot pretty extensively with Freo for the last week - possibly to the extent of a few thousand words or so. Some nice stuff we'll turn into scenes, that's for sure.

Not only did I write a crapload (well, for me) last night, I also did half a semester's worth of psychology study and an end-of-semester quiz worth 10% of my overall grade. Doesn't sound like much but every bit helps. Man, was I on a roll last night. Now, though, I think I'm starting to zone. Think I'll brush my teeth and drop off for a couple of hours' sleep, have lunch, and see if I can introduce this character into Project Hero. Yay motivation, I love you!
